This month, we're featuring four National Geographic Student Expeditions. Find out what last summer's students had to say about these programs, and why their experiences made such a lasting impression. Also below, see this month's featured student photo.

Tanzania Expedition
20 days
On Assignment Projects: Photography, Wildlife & Conservation, and Community Service
Immerse yourself in traditional village life, hike alongside Maasai warriors, and embark on a wildlife safari on this Tanzanian adventure.

Of this popular program, student James Jarvis tells us, "All the aspects of being
immersed in the village community—learning about Tanzanians and building friendships with them—really made the trip for me. I gained a deeper understanding of how the majority of the world lives, and I have a better understanding of the issues that confront developing nations."

Italy & Greece Expedition
17 days
On Assignment Projects: Photography and Archaeology & Ancient Culture
Navigate your way through the stunning Mediterranean on this European odyssey. Explore picturesque, whitewashed islands by boat and on foot; visit ancient archaeological sites; and swim in the crystal-clear waters off Greece's sandy beaches.

Student Victoria Hinson talks about traveling with National Geographic Expert Massimo Bassano. "Massimo is the most interesting person I've ever met. He is so full of life. He treated us like family, knew how to have fun, and helped us improve our photography. I couldn't have asked for a better expert."

Alaska Expedition
14 days
On Assignment Projects: Photography, Wildlife & Conservation, and Filmmaking
Discover Alaska's towering peaks, massive glaciers, raging rivers, abundant wildlife, and endless daylight. In this spectacular wilderness, kayak among sea lions, meet Alaska natives, and go river rafting.

"In Denali, we climbed Primrose Ridge in search of the famous Dall sheep, and later, Thorofare Mountain. There, among the ground squirrels and caribou, I realized my place was with nature, and my future would be defined by my efforts to protect it," says Bailey Edelstein.

Ecuador & the Galápagos Expedition
18 days
On Assignment Projects: Photography and Wildlife & Conservation
Snorkel with playful sea lions and penguins, zip-line through the cloud forest canopy, and ride horseback in the expansive Andean landscape on this wildlife adventure by land and sea.

Kendra Palmer recounts, "The snorkeling was amazing. I swam mere feet away from a hammerhead shark! We saw eagle rays that swam in elegant formation, and the sea lions were fun to play with. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This trip was an accomplishment—it was truly the best 18 days of my life."

Hometown: Denver, CO
Tanzania Expedition
"A young girl carrying water to her family in the small village of Maji ya Chai, Tanzania made for a beautiful portrait. The water droplets on her forehead were the detail that finished the photograph for me. This is my favorite shot from the trip; the child's beauty and innocence completely sum up my Tanzanian experience."
