Top Gear USA: The Stig's New Track

Top Gear USA: The Stig's New TrackWhen the U.S.-version of Top Gear debuts on HISTORY next month there will be an American Stig and he'll need a track. Here's the first images and details of The Stig's new American playground.

According our so-far reliable source "Green Eggs & Ham," these track images show the approximately 1.4-to 1.7-mile track located around what was once Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County, California. The track is in a similar location to one plotted out by NBC's ill-fated mid-Carpocalypse attempt at bringing the Top Gear franchise stateside.

A satellite image of El Toro shows the facility, which also features a hangar converted into the studio (much like the original version). The track itself is made up mostly of the western-most north/south runway and part of the east-west runway.

Top Gear USA: The Stig's New TrackThere are approximately a dozen turns as well as one long straight on the back end where our tipster estimates a powerful car like a Ferrari 599 could hit 130-to-140 mph before braking into the next turn. There's even some elevation change as the section towards what's marked "B3" includes about a ten-foot drop before reconnecting to the rest of the track.

All the markings on the track are preserved from other documents we've seen, but we don't know what they mean. The assumption is they're camera locations.

We already know the crew at Top Gear's had their hands all over cars from Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Porsche. What car will be the fastest around the track? The show debuts on November 21st, so we don't have that much longer to wait before we find out.
